According to United Nations Organization- every day more than 820 million people regularly go to bed hungry, of whom about 135 million suffer from acute hunger largely due to man-made conflicts, climate change and economic downturns.
The COVID-19 pandemic could now double that number, putting an additional 130 million people at risk of suffering acute hunger by the end of 2020, according to the World Food Programme.
With more than 250 million people potentially at the brink of starvation swift action needs to be taken to provide food and humanitarian relief to the most at-risk regions.
UNO has come out with 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) under which ZERO HUNGER is the second goal. In line with UNO’s objectives, Bharathamatha Family Welfare Foundation is working at grassroots level to fight against hunger.
We are running Community Kitchens for the poor Children/Aged people in Nagapattinam, Vedaranyam, Thiruthuripoondi, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam and Mayiladurai (Seven Community Kitchen in Seven Places )
We prepare hot meals every day at our community kitchens and feed over 500 poor Children/Aged people on a daily basis in one community kitchen.
Our beneficiaries are mostly abandoned, orphaned elderly, mentally unstable persons and persons with disabilities.
We are committed to fighting against hunger and hence we continue to provide hot meals to the poor people even during this COVID-19 pandemic.
Our staff, management and a group of dedicated volunteers spend many hours to help feed those abandoned /poor Children/Aged people.
We would be happy to welcome any support from you!
