COVID-19 lockdown has severely impacted the lives of the poor in India, especially all those families belonging to Below Poverty Line (families whose income is below Rs.150 per day) in the villages of our target areas have been massively impacted. All of them are daily wagers and landless farm laborers. No jobs, no income, and no means to have access to food now. Most of the population in the villages of this particular target areas fall under the category of socially excluded and marginalized segments (living in the lower part of the Caste Pyramid in India: Scheduled Caste) of society.

They are marginalized on a daily basis in terms of education, employment, accessibility to opportunities. Under the banner of COVID-19 lockdown, it has become too worse: their livelihood activities have been totally shut down and many people are starving to death. In such a scenario, pregnant women in their families face extreme hardship and difficulty as they do not have access to proper meals a day- Nutrition rich food is out of the question.

All those pregnant women who cannot consume nutrition-rich food are susceptible to delivering low birth weight children who may grow into mentally retarded, physically challenged, and children with low immunity. They are also susceptible to High Blood Pressure, Pre-term labor, anemia (low hemoglobin), miscarriage, etc.

In order to help them have safe pregnancy and motherhood, we are going to provide them with iron-enriched, vitamin-enriched, and other essential nutrients - loaded vegetables and fruits on a weekly basis. Freshly harvested iron and vitamins rich vegetables like Greens, Drumstick, Beans, Carrot, raisins, spinach, potatoes, etc., will be given free of cost to all those 200 pregnant women. Additionally, Date fruits, Gooseberry and Lime fruits also will be home delivered. Therefore, all those 200 very poor pregnant women will have regular access to highly nutritious food. Their nutrition status will increase and they will be free from anemia and other immune problems. Our initiative will help them deliver healthy babies with the right birth weight and immunity.
